On the heels of signing one of the most extraordinary rookie classes in team history, the Harlem Globetrotters will bring their 2012 World Tour to the Rose Garden on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012. The current Globetrotters will team up with the world-class rookies for nearly 270 games on the North American portion of the World Tour, bringing the Globetrotter magic to over 230 cities in 46 states, the District of Columbia, and five Canadian provinces.
Bleeding Red, Black...and GREEN
The sports facility has been a Smart Energy customer since 2009. The arena offsets 100 percent of its natural gas-related emissions through the Smart Energy program. It ties with the Oregon Convention Center as the largest Smart Energy participant.
The Trail Blazers organization, which owns the arena, is working to reduce its environmental impact in a many ways:
- LEED Gold certification achieved for the Rose Garden, the first existing professional sports venue to achieve this milestone in the greening of the sports and entertainment industry
- buys 100 percent renewable energy and has instituted energy-efficiency strategies reducing over 2,000,000 kWh's per year
- implemented waste diversion strategies, achieving over 80% recycling rates, including composting over 300 tons per year
The Trail Blazers host an annual Green Game each season, where local sustainability-focused organizations and community partners are invited to talk to fans about simple ways to reduce their impact on the planet. This season, the Green Game will be held during the NBA's Green Week, which runs April 4 - 11. This Green Game will ask Portlanders to "Bike to Blazers" encouraging fans to get out of their cars and bike to Trail Blazers games at Rose Garden.
