Sustainability: Oregon Convention Center: Getting Greener (And Smarter) All The Time!
The Oregon Convention Center recently completed a major $750,000 ligh
ting retrofit of its exhibit hall and lobby spaces.
In the exhibit halls, 1,080 metal halide fixtures, covering about 255,000 square feet, were replaced with induction lighting that is expected to cut energy usage in half! The new lighting has a brighter, more natural appearance and eliminates the "warm up" time needed for typical metal halide fixtures. In the center's lobby spaces, compact fluorescents and LED lighting will replace a variety of incandescent fixtures, in some cases reducing energy use by 90 percent!
Overall, the expected annual energy savings is about 2,721,578 kWh, representing an estimated cost savings of $130,636 per year. Project funding was leveraged through a combination of sources, including a $235,063 grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, an energy-efficiency incentive of $259,500 from Energy Trust of Oregon, and the Business Energy Tax Credit pass-through program with the Oregon Department of Energy.
